Professionals in premium wood finishing understand that the quality of a high-gloss surface directly determines the perceived value of the finished product. Although many coatings are marketed as “high gloss,” their results can differ dramatically. Some produce a crystal-clear, mirror-like finish with sharp reflections, while others appear hazy and ordinary—even after repeated reworking. The key difference often lies in the formulation and quality of the topcoat.
Qiqiang FE-8388 Premium Clear Piano Topcoat for Light-Colored Finishes is a benchmark product specifically developed for high-end clear-coating applications. It is also the secret behind the mirror-like finishes achieved by many manufacturers of luxury jewelry boxes and bespoke furniture.

Its most striking advantage is its exceptional mirror-finish performance. Made with premium resins and refined through extensive formulation optimization, the coating can achieve a gloss level of up to 100 gloss units after film formation. It levels evenly and smoothly, delivering outstanding distinctness of image (DOI) and a truly mirror-like appearance.
The resulting film is also thick, full-bodied, and visually dimensional. It brings out the natural depth and grain of the wood while giving the finished product a crystal-clear, premium appearance—an effect that conventional high-gloss coatings rarely achieve.
Beyond its outstanding appearance, FE-8388 also delivers robust physical performance. With a pencil hardness of up to 2H, it forms a dense, tough coating film that resists scratches caused by everyday friction and minor impacts. Its excellent scratch and abrasion resistance significantly reduces product damage and rework during transportation and use.

Even more importantly, it offers excellent resistance to yellowing. When finishing light-colored veneers, manufacturers often worry that the coating will yellow over time and diminish the product’s appearance. This PE clear coat features a specially optimized anti-yellowing formulation. Even on light-colored substrates with particularly demanding color-stability requirements, such as figured wood veneer, it can retain a stable appearance for three to five years. It resists oxidation and discoloration, helping the finished product maintain its premium look over the long term.
FE-8388 is also designed for trouble-free application. Its formulation is optimized for production environments with high temperatures and high humidity. Even when applied at a high film build, it is less prone to solvent popping, pinholing, or other surface defects. Its wide application latitude makes it forgiving in production and less dependent on highly specialized operator skills.
The low-odor formulation also allows odors to dissipate quickly after spraying, leaving virtually no residual smell in the finished product and substantially improving the end-user experience.

Whether used as a clear topcoat over stained veneer and luxury jewelry boxes, or as a surface finish for pianos and premium custom furniture, Qiqiang FE-8388 consistently delivers high-quality results.
